Tumor Removal

A tumor refers to a solid lesion formed by an abnormal growth of cells. Tumors of the skin range from excess skin cells known as skin tags, to viral infections such as warts, to cancerous growths. The size, structure and significance of skin tumors varies greatly and there are a number of procedures available for excising skin tumors and reducing the risk of their return.

Treatment for removal depends on several factors including location, size, type, and the stage of development of the tumor. Some removal procedures only require a scalpel and some stitching, while others can involve invasive surgery. Viral infections such as warts and some types of skin tags can be removed with a laser or frozen with a chemical treatment, while some cancerous growths on the skin may require numerous surgeries for removing the tumor and reconstructing the surrounding tissue after the removal.
