Breasts

Reconstructive surgery is used to address irregular body structures caused by trauma, infection, disease and congenital defects. With breast reconstruction surgery it is possible to replace or rebuild a breast mound with natural looking and feeling results.

To replace the breast, a surgeon may use a silicon or saline implant or decide that flap surgery is best. Flap surgery involves forming a new breast mound using tissue from the belly, back, thighs or buttocks of the patient. The type of reconstruction used depends on the condition and type of the patient’s body, the age of the patient and the kind of treatment they are receiving for trauma or disease.

As an Assistant Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, Dr. Rogers instructs plastic surgeon fellows on the intricacies of aesthetic surgery while routinely performing cancer survivors’ post-mastectomy breast reconstructions. He has had years of experience with reconstructive surgical techniques and specializes in the latest in microsurgery procedures. His on-going experience with reconstruction enables Dr. Rogers to be on the forefront of aesthetic breast procedures, both for cosmetic and reconstructive cases.

Breast reconstruction takes more than one surgery and includes several steps such as:

Adding a nipple
Changing the shape or size of the reconstructed breast
Operating on the opposite breast for a better match

As medical and surgical advancements rise to meet the ongoing struggles with disease and development the list of cutting edge reconstructive options is growing. To the left is a list of the breast reconstruction options currently available through Leif Rogers, M.D., FACS Plastic Surgery. Click on the title for more information on a specific procedure.
