Wrinkles
As we age, the skin of the face loses moisture and structure and the accumulated muscle contractions from smiling, frowning, laughing, smoking and furrowing the brow create folds in the skin that become wrinkles. Exposure to the sun, environmental pollutants, diet, lifestyle, stress and sleeping habits also contribute to the formation of wrinkles on the face. Essential proteins and moisture can begin to drain from the face as early as the 20s.
A good skin care regimen can help ease the onslaught of wrinkles but is often not enough. When wrinkles have gone beyond the reach of daily skin care, skin resurfacing treatments can combat the appearance of new wrinkles and to smooth out the wrinkles that are already visible.
Leif Rogers, M.D., FACS Plastic Surgery is pleased to provide the following treatments to help you win back a more youthful appearance.
Injectables
Purified toxins, such as Botox or Dysport, can be injected in the muscles of the face blocking nerve signals and significantly slowing the facial contractions that cause wrinkles to form while smoothing out the skin.
Dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm or Restylane can be injected to fill in wrinkles and depressions in the skin.
Lasers
CO2 treatments stimulate the production of collagen in the skin and offer similar results to that of a facelift for some patients. A carbon-dioxide laser uses concentrated, pulsating beams of light to create controlled injury to the skin triggering the body’s natural healing process and generating the grown of new cells.
Ultherapy is an ultrasound procedure that delivers low levels of focused heat below the skin while leaving the surface of your skin undisturbed. Your skin’s response to the energy is to stimulate the growth of new collagen. A gradual tightening and firming occurs, resulting in a natural lift of the skin over time.
Resurfacing
Dermabrasion uses a high-powered rotor with an abrasive brush or wheel to sand off the surface layer of the skin. The rotor breaks up dead skin cells and then vacuums them up. Dermabrasion is used to treat moderate to severe skin damage.
Microdermabrasion is used for mild treatments and for targeting smaller areas of the skin. Using a wand-like device, fine crystals are sprayed against the surface of the skin and then vacuumed up along with the dead skin cells.
