As we age, the skin around the eyes begins to stretch, the muscles slacken, and fat can accumulate, causing a baggy appearance beneath the eyes. Even with good skin care, wrinkles and bags under the eyes can eventually form and cause the eyes to look saggy and tired. More commonly referred to as an Eyelid Lift, a Blepharoplasty procedure removes fat, skin, and – when necessary – muscle around the eye in order to give the face a tighter, more youthful appearance. The procedure results in a more rested and alert appearance.
Candidates for an Eyelid Lift
An upper and/or lower Eyelid Lift is commonly performed on patients who struggle with saggy, tired looking eyelids. A Blepharoplasty procedure can offer relief and improve the youthful look and contours of your eyes and face.
Lower Eyelid Lift – A surgical procedure called Lower Blepharoplasty, more commonly referred as a Lower Eyelid Lift, removes fat, skin, and – when necessary – muscle around the eye, in order to give the face a tighter, more youthful appearance.
Upper Eyelid Lift – A medical condition known as ptosis, which is caused by poor muscle tone or nerve damage, can cause the upper eyelids to droop. A surgical procedure called Upper Blepharoplasty, more commonly referred as an Upper Eyelid Lift, is a procedure which removes fat, skin, and – when necessary – muscle around the eye, in order to give the face a tighter, more youthful appearance.
The downtime associated with an Eyelid Lift is typically 2-4 days. Most patients will experience light swelling and bruising around their eye area. If needed, patients can apply an ice pack to reduce any swelling or discomfort.
