There are three basic physical elements that make up the appearance of your face: bones, soft tissues, and skin. Flat, undefined contours and a disproportionate shape to your face can contribute to low self-esteem. Having a jawline that is weak, or poorly shaped, can affect the overall look of your face.
Jaw implant surgery can help better define your face by increasing projection and creating more distinct, contoured features. Implant surgery can be performed alone or in combination with other surgical procedures such as a Facelift, EyelidLift, or Nasal Refinement.
Jawbone Reduction can help better define your facial features, improve the contours and natural angles of your face and give you a softer, more proportionate and balanced appearance.
Candidates for Jaw Implants/Reduction
Cultural ideals of physical attractiveness are not the same for everyone. While most physical characteristics are shared the world over, differences in feature, contour, and proportion do exist between people of varying ethnic backgrounds. Cosmetic surgery techniques have evolved to address the nuances between the European and ethnic physiology, as well as meet the needs of each individual patient.
If you are struggling with loss of facial structure, due to age, injury, or disease – or are simply interested in improving the features and contours of your face – Jaw Implants can correct and strengthen your jawline, restoring a youthful balance to your whole face.
A patient who has a heavy, overly-squared, or outwardly-flaring mandible (which can diminish the more delicate features of the face) will commonly request a Jawbone Reduction.
Jawbone Reduction surgery reduces the size and appearance of the jaw, softens a heavy jaw line, and narrows the face, giving it a more oval appearance and helping the neck appear longer.
The jawbone can be reduced by non-surgical methods, such as Botox injections, or with surgical procedures, such as shaving down the jawbone, removing part of the mandible and/or the masseter muscle. or with a combination of these procedures.
Jaw Implants are made from special biocompatible materials, such as silicon and polyethylene, and are made to fit any anatomy. A consultation will be needed to determine which type of implant would be right for you. There are many options for implant size and placement, and Dr. Rogers will work closely with you to make the best choice for your anatomy.
Patients recovering from a Jaw Implant procedure will likely experience considerable swelling along their mandible area. Downtime is typically 10-14 days, during which time patients will need to lay low and avoid any strenuous activity. It can take up to three weeks before it becomes comfortable to eat again and for noticeable swelling to subside.
