Muscle Augmentation

As we age, muscle tissue is lost, and the skin around the muscles begins to slacken due to slowing collagen production and softening of the subcutaneous tissue. Genetics also play a large role in determining the shape and structure of the body – both in youth and as we age.

Fortunately, newer procedures such as fat transfers can help address these issues and help restore a youthful appearance to the face and body.

Candidates for Muscle Augmentation

If you are struggling with uneven body proportions due to aging or genetics, or just want to improve the look and feel of your pectoral muscles, calf muscles, buttocks, arms, or legs, a fat transfer is arguably the most natural cosmetic procedure for improving and sculpting the contours of your body.

The Procedure

In the past, fat transfers have primarily been used to smooth and soften small areas on the body, such as the hands, but with the advent of liposuction and other fat harvesting techniques, the number of options for fat transfers has increased. These new procedures have given surgeons access to larger volumes of fat, which has allowed them to use this natural material to sculpt and contour more areas like the pectoral muscles, calf muscles, arms, legs, and buttocks.

A fat transfer has a similar affect to that of an implant, but differs in some ways. With a fat transfer there is no risk of an allergic reaction, or rejection by the body, because the material used for the procedure is harvested from the patient. Fat transfers also have the advantage of looking and feeling completely natural while giving the appearance of firm and toned muscle.

The Recovery

The recovery time needed following a Muscle Augmentation procedure with fat transfer will vary depending on which area of the body you are having enhanced. During consultation, Dr. Rogers will help set accurate recovery expectations based on what you are looking to have done. In general, fat transfer is a fairly straightforward procedure as there is little to no risk of your body rejecting your own fat cells.
