Crafting Your Ideal Look with Dr. Leif Rogers, MD, FACS

Jaw augmentation—which can sometimes involve the placement of artificial implants—is a cosmetic surgery procedure that involves adding synthetic materials or natural tissue to the jawline to enhance its definition and improve the overall appearance of your face. The implants are typically made of silicone or other biocompatible materials. They are inserted through small incisions in the mouth, enabling Dr. Leif Rogers, MD, FACS, to use his keen artistic eye to sculpt a more pleasing facial appearance.

Should your jaw and/or chin be overly large or too prominent, however, jaw reduction might be ideal for you. This procedure involves removing a portion of the bone from your jaw to make it less prominent. It is often performed on patients who have an overly large or wide jaw that may cause discomfort or a disproportionate appearance. If you’d like to learn more about how Dr. Rogers can help you enjoy a jaw that more appropriately frames your face, reach out to our Beverly Hills office and set up your initial consultation today.

Should I Consider Jaw Implants or Reduction?

If you are struggling with loss of facial structure due to age, injury, or disease—or are simply interested in improving the features and contours of your face—jaw implants can correct and strengthen your jawline, restoring a youthful balance to your whole face. A patient with a heavy, overly squared, or outwardly flaring mandible (which can diminish the more delicate features of the face) will often request a jawbone reduction.

Your Jaw Enhancement Experience

Both jaw implants and jaw reduction procedures are typically performed under general anesthesia. This means that you will be fully asleep and will not feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure.

The duration of a jaw implant or reduction procedure can vary depending on the specific technique used and the complexity of the individual case. In general, the procedure typically takes between one and three hours to complete.

Once your procedure is complete, you’ll spend a bit of time in our recovery area before heading home to begin recovery. You will need a friend to drive you home, however, as the anesthesia will still be wearing off.

Your Rest, Recovery, and Results

Most patients can return to work and resume their normal activities within 10 to 14 days after the procedure, but the final results may take several weeks to develop fully. You may need to avoid solid foods and stick to a soft or liquid diet for a few days. Dr. Rogers will give you clear aftercare instructions and a detailed timeline outlining what to expect during recovery. He’ll also schedule follow-up appointments to ensure that you’re healing nicely.
