What Is Dysport?

Dysport is an injectable treatment that contains botulinum toxin type A, which is a purified neurotoxin protein that temporarily paralyzes or relaxes muscle activity. Dysport is used for cosmetic purposes to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines…specifically those that are known as “dynamic wrinkles.” This type of wrinkle is caused by the repeated use of your facial muscles, which is where Dysport steps in.

Dysport creates its results by effectively blocking nerve signals that cause muscle contractions, which reduces the signs of facial aging that are caused by repetitive muscle movements. By temporarily pressing the “pause” button on these muscles and their ability to move, Dysport can smooth over fine lines and wrinkles that have already appeared while also preventing the formation of further lines and wrinkles.

Is Dysport Right for Me?

Generally, individuals who are in good overall health and do not have any medical conditions that would make them unsuitable candidates for the procedure may qualify for Dysport injections. Additionally, Dysport may not be suitable for individuals who:

Are allergic to botulinum toxin or any of the other ingredients in Dysport
Have a skin infection or inflammation at the injection site
Have a history of neuromuscular disorders, such as myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome
Are pregnant or breastfeeding

The Dysport Procedure

Getting Started

The procedure for administering Dysport typically takes only a few minutes, but the total time can vary depending on the individual and the areas being treated. On the day of the procedure, you should arrive with a clean, makeup-free face. Your provider will then assess the areas to be treated and mark the injection sites with a pen or marker.

The Injections

A small amount of Dysport will be injected into the targeted muscles using a very fine needle. Most people experience minimal discomfort during the injection process, and we’ll offer you a topical anesthetic to ensure your comfort. In most cases, the injections only take between 15 and 30 minutes to complete in total.

Following Up

After the injection, your provider may provide specific post-treatment instructions, such as avoiding rubbing or massaging the treated area for several hours to prevent the medication from spreading to other muscles. You may be scheduled for a follow-up appointment to assess the results and determine if additional treatments are necessary.

Your Recovery Experience

The recovery time for Dysport® injections is typically very short. Most people are able to return to their normal daily activities immediately after the procedure. You’ll experience a bit of tenderness and tenderness in the treatment area, but these issues will fade within a day or two, leaving you to enjoy your exciting results.
